Class of 1961

BEARD, Douglas Douglas Harold Beard, of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away January 29, 2011.

He was born in Atlanta, Georgia where he began his exciting career in Atlanta local television. He studied at the Atlanta School of Art. He went on to begin his official career which included appearing as "Pierre the Painter" on the local children's show, "Popeye Club". In Albany, Georgia he became the art director of WALB TV where he also appeared on a children's show, "Circus Parade" as "Uncle Doug".

He later became the director for hiring people with disabilities at Easter Seals. He went on to be the owner of a Christian restaurant, Hallelujah Square. He served on the board at Albany First Methodist Church, sang in the choir, and was actively involved there with his family. Douglas and his wife went on to serve in children's ministry at Albany Assembly of God.

He and his family moved to Kennesaw where they have lived for the last twenty eight years. He was a pioneer in the opening of the Weather Channel as an artist/director. He had a medical retirement from this position allowing him pursue his many talents. He was a watercolor artist for many years and an art instructor in Kennesaw. He expanded his talents as he developed a new interest in wood crafting.

He passionately loved animals all of his life, especially enjoyed his birds and dogs. He was a member of the Atlanta Terrier Club and Southeastern States Wire Fox Terrier Club.

He loved his home church, Mount Paran North Church of God where he was active in dramas, the men's Bible study and Sunday school. Douglas is survived by his wife of 43 years, Billie Ann Hall Beard.

His children are Kristena Marie Cheema Beard, Andrew Douglas Beard, Joy Beard Ivey, and son-in-law, Jade Patrick Ivey. He was blessed with five precious grandchildren: Zayne Cheema, Ayesha Cheema, Lillian Beard, Hannah Ivey, Patrick Douglas Ivey. He is also survived by three siblings: William T. Beard, Virginia G. Alexander, and M. Sue Peterson.

All who have known Douglas have been richly blessed.Funeral services for Douglas will be 1 PM, Wednesday, February 2nd at Mount Paran North Church of God, 1700 Allgood Road, Marietta, GA 30062 (770) 578-9081. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 1st from 2 - 4 PM and again from 6 - 8 PM at Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta (770) 424-4924.
